The much-awaited Justice Hema Committee report on harassment faced by women in the Malayalam cinema industry has recorded explosive accounts of harassment, exploitation and ill-treatment of female professionals, and has alleged that a "criminal gang" was controlling the industry where unyielding women are squeezed out. The panel report also alleged there was a "power nexus" consisting of a handful of producers, directors, actors and production controllers. The Kerala government constituted the panel after the 2017 actress assault case involving actor Dileep to study issues of sexual harassment and gender inequality in Malayalam cinema. Manmohan Singh Was Part Of Lateral Entry: Minister Hits Out At Rahul Gandhi

Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Monday hit out at Rahul Gandhi for his claim that the government was trying to bypass the reservation system through lateral entry, reminding the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha that former prime minister Manmohan Singh was made the finance secretary in 1976 through the lateral entry route. The minister also dismissed as "baseless" Rahul Gandhi's allegation that RSS people will be hired as public servants through this mode and pointed out that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who made the system of lateral entry methodical by giving the mandate to UPSC for framing rules. Earlier, he pointed out, there was no formal system in place for such entry into governance. "Whatever appointments or recruitments or selections are to be done, UPSC will do it. Where is the issue of BJP, RSS in this? Baseless allegations are being made," Arjun Meghwal told PTI Videos in Bikaner. He said that RSS is an organisation that promotes cultura...

Northeast 'Vision Plan 2047' Withdrawn Over 'Chin State Of Manipur' Factual Error

A nodal agency for social and economic development of the northeast region has withdrawn a key vision document due to a factual error on the migration of the Kukis (Chin) from Myanmar's Chin State. Instead of Myanmar, the North Eastern Council's (NEC) 'Vision Plan 2047' wrongly mentioned the "Kukis (Chin)" came from the "Chin State of Manipur". The document has been withdrawn, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said in a post on his official Facebook page. Mr Singh said Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has been informed about the matter. "Following the error with the NEC Vision Plan 2047, the issue has been raised with DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia and it was subsequently withdrawn," the Manipur Chief Minister said. The mistake was found on Chapter 3 of the now-withdrawn vision document titled 'Art, Culture and Natural Heritage'. Chin State in neighbouring Myanmar shares an i...

Former US President Donald Trump once again sparked controversy by criticising two Olympic gold medalist female boxers, labelling them as men during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Trump's remarks, made in the context of his pledge to "keep men out of women's sports," have reignited debates over gender and sports. Referring to the athletes at the recently concluded Paris Olympics, Trump stated, "They were men. They transitioned to women, and they were in the boxing," adding that it is "so demeaning to women." Trump's comments follow a pattern of his rallies where he has frequently targeted transgender athletes. The two Olympic gold medalist athletes in question, Lin Yu-ting of Taiwan and Imane Khelif of Algeria have been at the centre of global scrutiny due to misconceptions about their gender. Both athletes were disqualified from last year's Women's World Championships by the now-banned International Boxing Association (IBA) ove...

The vehicles came from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan, the officers said. The forest department has suspended two rangers for the lapse. On August 15, at least 12 Mahindra Thar and two Scorpio SUVs managed to sneak into the ecologically fragile tiger reserve for a private safari led by a tour organiser called Adventure Tours. When visuals of the SUVs inside the zone where personal vehicles were not allowed went viral on social media, the forest department swung into action. It was suspected some forest rangers had illegally allowed the private vehicles into the park. "It is a matter of illegal entry. We have seized the vehicles. We are further investigating the matter," divisional forest of...
