US Company Fires 200 In 'Donation Scam' Related To Telugu Organisations

US federal mortgage giant Fannie Mae has laid off about 700 employees, including Telugu workers, over the two days. About 200, a majority of them Telugu, were fired on "ethical grounds", The Times Of India reported, citing sources. The terminations are linked to the irregularities and misuse of the company's "matching grants program", a scheme designed to support charitable donations, according to the English daily. Some employees were allegedly hand-in-glove with non-profit organisations, such as the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), and misused company funds. TANA is at the centre of the controversy, with one laid-off employee holding a regional vice president position in the organisation and another the spouse of a former president of the American Telugu Association (ATA), the report said.  This controversy follows a similar scandal at Apple in January 2025, where over 100 employees were fired for misusing its "Matching Gifts Programme....

Gujarat Man Poses As Scientist Who Designed Chandrayaan-3 Lander, Arrested

The police in Gujarat's Surat city on Tuesday arrested a man who allegedly posed as a scientist with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and gave interviews to local media outlets claiming that he designed the lander module for the Chandrayaan-3 moon mission, an official said.

A complaint was lodged against the accused, Mitul Trivedi, after he was seen giving interviews after the Vikram lander successfully made a soft-landing on August 23, claiming to have designed the lander module of Chandrayaan-3, the official said.

Trivedi allegedly posed as the "assistant chairman" of ISRO's "Ancient Science Application department" and even produced a fake appointment letter dated February 26, 2022, he said.

"A thorough investigation revealed that the man was in no way connected to ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 mission and had made false claims of being an ISRO employee," the police said in a statement.

He even produced a fake letter about being the "space research member" for ISRO's next project called "mercury force in space", it said.

He spread fake messages regarding ISRO despite not having contributed to the ambitious project, thereby harming the reputation of the institution, the statement read.

The Surat city crime branch lodged an FIR against the accused under sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), and 471 (using forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code.

Following his gold medal win, Neeraj opened up about his feelings regarding the controversial incident and what he felt could have been the reason behind the confusion. ( Asian Games Medals Tally ) "I was puzzled and confused, it has never happened in any competition I have competed in till now.
