IPL Chairman Asked About Pak Players' Absence, Mustafizur. His Reply

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 saw a controversial moment even before it began. Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman , picked by Kolkata Knight Riders, was barred from playing in the tournament. Though no official reason was given, the political turmoil in Bangladesh was seen as a major factor behind the decision. Arun Dhumal, the current IPL chairman, was asked about the omission in a recent interview in Financial Times . Arun Dhumal was asked: "Politics keeps rearing its head in cricket. Pakistani players have not played in the IPL since 2009, and more recently, Kolkata Knight Riders released Mustafizur Rahman after the BCCI instructed the franchise to do so in January 2026. Is it unrealistic to delink the IPL from politics in the subcontinent?" Dhumal replied: "It is unfortunate, I would say, the way things unfold at times. I do not think the government has any interest in or role to play in running cricket day to day. The government is supportive of cricket at l...

"Papa, I Was...": Rented Thar Rams i20, Kills Bhopal Tourist In Goa

A 65-year-old tourist from Bhopal died after a rented Mahindra Thar SUV collided with the rear of the family's hatchback at the Happy Bar junction in North Goa's Assagao. The incident occurred on Monday, police said.

Bhagatram Sharma, who was travelling in a Hyundai i20 with family members, was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Two other occupants of the hatchback were taken to a hospital with minor injuries and are reported to be in a stable condition.

A five-month-old infant who was also in the vehicle escaped unharmed. Police said the Mahindra Thar was a rented vehicle.

Eyewitnesses alleged that occupants of the Thar attempted to switch seats immediately after the collision.

Videos circulating online show one male occupant of the Thar speaking on the phone, with the words "Papa, I was at the intersection..." audible before his voice fades, while three women are visible in the rear seats of the damaged SUV. The situation at the scene reportedly became tense as locals accused the Thar's occupants of trying to shield the driver -- allegedly a woman -- from responsibility.

The footage also shows  one side of the hatchback completely crushed.

Police have seized the rented vehicle and registered a case of rash and negligent driving causing death. Officers are investigating the allegations of a 'driver switch'.

Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the junction to determine who was driving the Thar at the time of the impact. The vehicle remains in police custody.

The two injured family members are receiving treatment, while the infant is under medical observation as a precautionary measure.

Police have said the investigation will consider forensic evidence, eyewitness statements and video footage to establish the full circumstances of the collision.

US Reopens Lake Michigan Airspace After Closure Over "National Defense"

US officials restricted the airspace over Lake Michigan on Sunday citing a potential new threat to national security but soon reopened the skies, as the United States and Canada respond to multiple air intrusions. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced "temporary flight restrictions" over one of the Great Lakes along the US-Canada border, designating it as "national defense airspace," one day after a similar closure over Montana led to the scrambling of US fighter jets. The Montana closure was ordered over a "radar anomaly," but no object was discovered. Similarly, the Lake Michigan restrictions were lifted shortly after they were announced, apparently with no threat detected. "The FAA briefly closed some airspace over Lake Michigan to support Department of Defense activities. The airspace has been reopened," the agency said in a statement to AFP. Sunday's action over Lake Michigan marked the latest move to address a series ...
