Congress's Karti Chidambaram told NDTV today that the "backstabber" tag from the DMK following the Grand Old Party's decision to form an alliance with Vijay is "unfair criticism". The DMK, upset at the Congress decision, has called off the alliance that has been in place since 2004. Chidambaram said while he respected the ties with DMK, the people's mandate this time demanded that Vijay be allowed to form government and not giving him the necessary support would have led to a stalemate. #NDTVExclusive | "Offered our support to TVK": Karti P Chidambaram ( @KartiPC ) to @jsamdaniel pic.twitter.com/Jf5MPlVHhK — NDTV (@ndtv) May 6, 2026 In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Chidambaram said: "The people have clearly voted for a new formation. "Kick Her Out": Mahesh Jethmalani On Mamata Banerjee's "Won't Resign" Move

The call for dismissal of Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee went up by a notch as senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani said her behaviour is "unpardonable" and a "challenge to the whole democratic system". Once an election is certified by the Election Commission, the Chief Minister ceases to be a Chief Minister, he said in an exclusive interview to NDTV's Padmaja Joshi. "It is an insult and she deserves to be taught a lesson... I'm glad she did this. I'm glad that this is her attitude so that the Governor can dismiss her instead of her gracefully resigning... the Governor must formally dismiss her because she holds office at his pleasure," Jethmalani said. "If she insists on sticking like a lemming to her chair, then the Governor must unceremoniously dismiss her. I would like to say, given this conduct, kick her out," he added. In case Banerjee continues to occupy her office, the Governor could send in the police and "evict ...

Babar Azam Minces No Words, 'Answers Back' To 90s Pakistan Cricketers

Star batter Babar Azam has responded to criticism from former Pakistan players, asserting that there should be no room for 'below the belt' attacks on individuals. While admitting that facing scrutiny is part of the job, Babar claimed that 'personal attacks' have become far too common, especially within the Pakistan cricketing landscape. The former captain also sympathized with teammate Shadab Khan for speaking out against criticism from ex-players following the team's early exit from the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Responding to the likes of Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Yousuf, Shadab directed a sharp retort at the former players, noting that they were never part of a team that defeated India in a World Cup game. His comments have sparked a massive furore back in Pakistan. "When they speak about things, it's right, but if the current player has said something, it's not right. Anyway, it's a different ball game. Shadab said something in the...

Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Bring Respite From Heat To Delhi-NCR

Delhi on Saturday witnessed a spell of rain and thunderstorms, bringing respite from the heat. Parts of Delhi-NCR received rainfall as a sudden change of weather brought a much-needed break from the rising temperature in the city. Visuals from parts of the national capital showed the rains battering a few areas, with the city and its adjoining areas experiencing stormy weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier in the day predicted the spell of showers for Delhi. It has issued a yellow alert for the national capital for the next two days. "A spell of very light to light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 30-40 km/h, gusting up to 50 km/h, is likely to occur on Sunday." Similar conditions may persist into Monday," an IMD official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Today's rainfall comes two days after Delhi and adjoining regions experienced hailstorms and rain amid an intense heatwave spell, cooling the cit...

Diamond Harbour "Lyari Of Bengal", Says BJP. Trinamool Hits Back

The BJP's description of Diamond Harbour, the Lok Sabha constituency of Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, as the "Lyari of Bengal" has earned a sharp clapback from the ruling party in the state. Accusing the BJP of attempts at "otherisation", the Trinamool Congress alleged that the party is treating the state with contempt and hatred. Lyari, in Pakistan's Karachi, has entered the consciousness of the average Indian as a hotbed of crime syndicates, gang wars and espionage after its portrayal in the blockbuster movie 'Dhurandhar'. The Falta Assembly seat in the Diamond Harbour area made headlines earlier this week after IPS officer and "encounter specialist" Ajay Pal Sharma, also known as 'Singham' , warned  Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan and others of strict action if they engage in "mischief". Khan responded with a movie reference of his own, saying, "If he is Singham, I am Pushpa...

Kohli's Vintage Send-Off To Gill After Taking His Catch Breaks The Internet

A vintage Virat Kohli was on display when Royal Challengers Bengaluru were fielding against Gujarat Titans in their IPL 2026 game at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday. GT skipper Shubman Gill got off to a terrific start in the chase of 155 against RCB. He smashed veteran pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Josh Hazlewood all around the park in the first two overs of Powerplay. Gill hit the Indian fast bowler for a four and six in the very first over of the innings, and then smashed the ace Australian pacer for three overs and two sixes in the following over. RCB looked completely clueless as their bowlers found no way to stop him. Eventually, Bhuvneshwar provided RCB the much-needed relief as Gill smashed the ball into the hands of Kohli at cover. The RCB star followed the wicket with a furious celebration. A vintage Kohli took the catch, gave a stare to Gill and then banged the ball on the floor with a loud roar. "Upper Caste Or Rs 80 Lakh Salary": IPS Officer's Daughter Sets Groom Demand

A viral post by Oendrila Kapoor, founder of The Date Crew, has reignited debate over caste and income preferences in modern Indian marriages. On LinkedIn, Kapoor shared an interaction with a 32-year-old fashion entrepreneur from a well-educated family. The woman's father is an IPS officer, and her mother is a teacher. Despite this progressive background, the woman's expectations for a partner were highly specific. She said that she would only consider "upper caste" matches, particularly Brahmins or Rajputs. "She wanted Upper Caste Matches only unless the guy earned 80 LPA or more. This was told to me by a 32 year old who runs her own fashion label. On paper, she comes from a very progressive and educated family with her father, an IPS officer and mother working as a teacher. And yet this is the only condition that she put in front of us: Brahmins, Rajputs, upper caste profiles only," Kapoor wrote.  The woman added that she might be open to marrying outside...

Axis Exit Poll Shock: Will 'Jana Nayagan' Vijay Rule Tamil Nadu Next?

Exit polls for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election point to a commanding return for the DMK-led alliance, but one projection for actor Vijay's TVK has emerged as the defining variable in a contest that may yet defy precedent. While most exit polls converge on a DMK-led victory, the Axis My India projection has shifted the center of gravity of the conversation by placing Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the 98 to 120 seat range. LIVE UPDATES That estimate, if borne out, would not only disrupt the immediate electoral outcome but force a reassessment of what constitutes a breakthrough in Tamil Nadu politics. To understand the scale of that claim, it must be placed against history. The DMK's landmark 1967 victory delivered roughly 138 seats in a 234-member Assembly and installed the party in power. But that win came after years of organizational buildup and electoral participation dating back to the 1950s.  A decade later, in 1977, M G Ramachandran's AIADMK secur...
